This computer is not running genuine windows

‘This computer is not running genuine windows’ message

I have seen this question a few times on this forum but I cannot seem to resolve it so any help would be appreciated! My windows is genuine as I bought my laptop from a reputable high street store about 4 years ago and I have never had a problem. I have pasted the diagnostics below, as far as I can see it says my windows is activated so I don’t know why I have the message that I do. I have tried to follow these instructions:

Click Start, right click Computer

Scroll down to Windows Activation

Click the link ‘Change product key’

Enter the product key located on the COA sticker attached to the bottom of your laptop or in the battery compartment. Click Next to activate over the Internet.

COA Certificate of Authenticity:

But I don’t have any link for ‘Change product key’.

Any help would be really appreciated!

This Computer is not running genuine windows when it is

Ever since KB3004394 (which I cannot manually uninstal) was released last year my computer has been failing to install KB3024777 (with error code 371B and is greyed out out in windows update so cannot be hidden) and any other updates that may be released all fail as well.

The lack of updates appears to have made internet ep,lorer even more unreliable so have been using Chrome instead.

The not genuine message regularly appears when the computer tells me it is a genuine upgrade of Windows 7 home premium 64 bit from vista 64 bit. My Av is Norton 360

There is not a restore point I can go back to prior to dec 2014

The MGDAD tool brings out the following

This computer is not running genuine Windows Error: 0x8004fe21

My colleague has bought a PC with original WIN7 Prof. 64-bit.

1 week was working without any problems, but now he gets these pop-up messages:

This computer is not running genuine Windows

Error:0x8004fe21

I’ve tried already a lot of solutions, for example to call Microsoft and activate by phone, but still doesn’t help.

If we try MGADiag.exe from:

Validation Code: 0x8004fe21

It seems to be a really serious problem with Microosft Update: KB971033.

Howto solve this problem?

«this computer is not running genuine windows» What is this? How do I fix it?

So I just got a message that said something like » This computer is not running genuine windows». I have a Dell Inspiron 5720 and it’s about 2 years old. I’m not sure if I should just ignore this message or what. This is the first time I have seen this message. Windows did a update earlier today so I’m thinking it’s related to that.

Other problems I’ve had that could be related:

My computer’s hard drive fails the SMART test and it first failed about 5 months ago. It basically said I needed a new hard drive because of bad sectors. I have not replaced it because I read online that you only really need to replace it if it gets worse. After the SMART tester detected problems with the hard drive the SMART tester wouldn’t work any more. After it runs for a couple minutes my whole computer freezes up and become unresponsive and the task bar disappears and even after letting it sit over night it was still stuck so I had to hold the power button to shut it off. I have run chkdsk a couple times (after it happened and a couple times since) and there was 4k of bad sectors the first time I checked and last time I checked there was not any more(I will check again when I’m done typing this message.)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you for posting your query on Microsoft Community forum.

I would appreciate if you can provide us the following information to help us understand the issue better.

Are you getting any specific error code along with the message » This computer is not running genuine windows «?

Which edition of Windows 7 are you using?

Did Windows 7 come pre-installed with the Computer or you have purchased a retail version of Windows?

What is the status of activation in system properties window? Is it showing activated or not activated?

To know the version of Windows I would suggest you to follow the suggestion provided in the below mentioned article.

On the same window you will notice the status of activation so please check that and let us know the status of the activation. For more clarification you can refer to the screen shot added below.

If the OS came pre-installed with the Computer, then I would suggest you to contact the OEM for assistance on getting your Windows activated. Else if you have a retail version of Windows, then you might need to contact MS Product Activation team to get it sorted.

However you can take help from the following Microsoft link.

Activate Windows on this computer

Hope this would help. If issue still persists post back with current status of your computer and result of the proposed suggestion, we will be happy to assist you.

I’m sorry about that! I totally forgot to tell you the operating system! Windows 7 Home Premium. At the bottom of the page that you indicated it says «windows is activated».

I was typing this massage and the window popped up and I got a screen shot of it.

Windows 7 was always installed on my computer. Bought it that way and I’ve never made any modifications to the operating system.
