What Causes the “Disconnected by VAC: You Cannot Play on Secure Servers” Error on Windows?

Solution 1: Verify the Integrity of Game Files

I was playing for a few hours in casual and when I played in competitive, about 20th round, this message shows up «Disconnected by VAC: You cannot play on secure servers». WTH. I wasn’t able to reconnect to my competitive match, thus counting as a leave and have a 30 minute cooldown. Am i gonna be compensated for this? This VAC thing is sht. BTW, im playing on a new ssd. So theres no way I could have a program that would interfere with the CSGO files. Fix this up

I have tried all of these. restarted, reinstalled, verified countless times. whats next?

Restart your computer
If the error persists on all servers it may be resolved by exiting Steam and restarting your computer.
Repair the Steam Service
The error may also indicate a Steam service failure. Please try repairing the Steam service:
Exit Steam.
Click Start > Run (Windows Key + R).
Type the following command:
«C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\bin\SteamService.exe» /repair
Launch Steam and test the issue again.
Note: This command requires administrator privileges and may take a few minutes. If you have installed Steam to another path, please replace C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam with the correct path.
Restore boot settings to default
Kernel integrity checks, kernel debugging, and Data Execution Prevention (DEP) must be set to default to play on VAC secured servers.
If you receive the following error when entering these commands they are already set to default:
The value is protected by Secure Boot policy and cannot be modified or deleted.
To change boot settings to default please follow the steps below:
Note: If you are running Windows 8 you will need to press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Exit Steam.
Click the Start button, then All Programs, and Accessories.
Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
In the command prompt, type the following commands and press Enter after each command:
bcdedit /deletevalue nointegritychecks
bcdedit /deletevalue loadoptions
bcdedit /debug off
bcdedit /deletevalue nx
Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and test the issue again.

Repair system files
There may be corrupt system files that are causing this issue. The following instructions will run a critical system file check on your Windows installation, replacing any missing or damaged files:
Note: If you are running Windows 8 you will need to press Windows Key + X and select Command Prompt (Admin).
Exit Steam.
Click the Start button, All Programs, and Accessories.
Right-click on Command Prompt and click Run as administrator.
In the command prompt, type the following command and press Enter:
sfc /scannow
Once the operation has completed please restart your computer, then launch Steam and test the issue again.

Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

I can’t play Counter-Strike Global Offensive without disconnecting every game as it says Disconnected by VAC: You cannot play on secure servers. I have tried the three fixes that is suggested on the link.

None of them worked and not sure what to do 🙁 If anybody can help or have any ideas on what I should do to get it working 🙂

No I have not been vac banned it let’s me play sometimes and doesn’t disconnect, other days it just disconnects me from matches.

Some other things you can try taken from my guide:

VAC errors are pretty common and can have many different causes. Steam did a great job by covering many potential causes and their fixes in this article. Although it is a good article and I refer to it quite often I still feel like we can try some other things and add to the article.

The possible solutions listed below are not a complete replacement of the steam article! read everything in this article as well!

Check your virus scanner
Are you using a virus scanner other than the default windows defender? Check if it might be blocking either something to do with steam, the game or VAC. If you simply disable it and the problem is gone you got your answer. If you don’t feel like keeping it disabled you need to allow it manually. How this is done depends on the virus scanner and you should be able to find answers on google.

Reinstall steam
If repairing your steam service (from the article) did not work, you might want to consider reinstalling it completely. Taken from this support article you can reinstall steam without losing all your games.

The Steam installer can be downloaded here: (http://store.steampowered.com/about/) and reinstalled to the same location where it is already installed.

This may fix potential issues with Steam client and service files. Installing into same location will preserve all installed games.

WARNING! Uninstalling Steam through any other method will delete all game and userdata content.

for me it was software that used to work and now causes vac errors

not sure if it was msi afterburner or g hub or even possibly my ups software

it might be afterburner in my case but i havent finished testing yet

I don’t know what causes it but I did not installed anything new in my computer and I can still play couple of rounds before it kicks me out the game. If there is a problem why it lets me to play in the first place

try disabling absolutely everything you dont need to play and if it starts to work add each thing back one at a time until you start getting errors again

Im planning to do that but when I get the next error and cant join the game again, this time temporarily ban for disconnecting will be 24 hours. And the next one will be a week.

i am probably stating the obvious again but dont play comp for a while

i used to get the error in other game modes too
