I integrated the Broadcom driver for my BCM5708C device using the instructions found here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923834
Now I am getting an error that reads, «Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers. To install windows make sure that drivers are valid and restart the installation.»
Here is the entry from the setupapi.app.log:

Do you mean that you only want to inject the network adapter driver into the boot image? May I know the detailed steps how you injected the drivers? Which version of Windows are you using?
Firstly, I would say that the error «FAILURE (0xe0000228)», in the first log before injecting the video driver, is a common error message and can usually be ignored. You should be able to use the video even without some third-party drivers.
Besides, all the video and network adapter drivers are not boot-critical so that may not be the root cause to the error «Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers». This error occurred probably because some boot-critical drivers, like ICH drivers, are not compatible.
For us to narrow down the root cause, please first contact the manufacturers to see if the hardware support the operating system and if they have any updated drivers for it.
Also, please collect the setupact.log (located at x:\Windows\panther\setupact.log) and send it with the setupapi.app.log to tfwst@microsoft.com

I went ahead and installed the video drivers to winpe using imagex. Here is an updated log snippet. Still getting the same message.

Здравствуйте уважаемые форумчане, в последнее время(а именно 3 недели) довольно часто я стал видеть.

Всем привет, прикупил тут себе немного нового железа, теперь мучает BSOD 0x000000d1. Насколько я.
GUID Partition Table (GPT) is a boot sector technology poised to replace the venerable Master Boot Record (MBR) principally because MBR has a maximum capacity of 2 TB for a single partition (some single disks have reached 3 TB). Installing Windows on a GPT is a bit tricky because Windows wants to default back to MBR. In order to force Windows on to a GPT, we have to pre-format the drive prior to Windows installation. You can do that during Windows setup using the console.
Requirements
• Windows Vista or 7 (must be 64-bit no matter which OS is used)
• A motherboard with EFI BIOS
• A means to EFI boot the Windows setup (I had to use a USB DVD drive on MSI Z77A-G65, the internal SATA Bluray drives didn’t have an EFI option)
«online disk» and «attributes disk clear readonly» are likely to fail. Don’t worry, they are only precautionary. Change the drive letter and label to whatever you want. Also, the above command (specifically «create partition primary») will consume all remaining space on the drive. If you want multiple partitions with fixed sizes, substitute what you want in place of «create partition primary.»
4. You may now close the command prompt and click on «Refresh» back in the dialog to choose where to install Windows. You should now see at least 2 partitions (I think Microsoft Reserved is hidden) and it will only let you install on a non EFI/MSR partition. Click on the primary partition and proceed with the installation as normal.
5. Note that in the EFI BIOS after installing Windows via EFI, you can no longer directly boot the volume Windows is installed on. Instead, you must boot via «Windows Boot Manager» (on MSI Z77A-G65, it was «UEFI: Windows Boot Manager»). Keep that in mind if you wish to tweak the boot order

Windows Setup Could Not Install One Or More Boot-Critical Drivers! How To Fix?
For some group of users, it becomes a difficult task to run and operate their Windows computer properly.
It mostly happens during the initial days when users are not aware of the warning messages and how to fix them in simple steps.
Suppose you have assembled a PC and using it for a few months now, it may slow down with its performance. In some cases, a partial/full format is the solution.
If you know the said process and trying to reinstall the operating system, you may get an error message ‘Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers. To install Windows, make sure that the drivers are valid, and restart the installation.’
No doubt, it could create a panic situation and retrying the installation will again show a similar message. Now, the only way is to check your drivers before performing this operation.
Follow The Below Methods To Resolve Windows Setup Could Not Install One Or More Boot-Critical Drivers
You can follow the methods to try resolving the issue. If the issue is still not resolved feel free to leave us a comment and we will be able to help you out.
1) Remove all external drives
If you have attached any additional external drive which is in no use, you need to remove it from the PC.
Unplug it soon, remove unnecessary USB connections and media drives such that they won’t partially involve in the process.
Now, try to install the operating system again. It is likely that Windows setup will select the driver to install it properly.
Users who are still getting similar message need to follow the next method.
2) Check BIOS Settings
It has been noticed that disabled or partially enabled USB or DVD drives could lead to creating such errors. In this type of situation, you need to enable them in the BIOS.
Suppose you have a USB flash drive support for operating system installation, you need to enable USB drive during boot.
For DVD drive support, you need to have a bootable disc with Windows ISO file. And, this is the way to boot drivers for Windows 7 and later versions.
If you are using the latest version, you can go with Windows 10 troubleshoot boot.
3) Create New Installation Disc
At times, the USB flash drive or DVD drive may cause an error because of multiple scratches and similar reasons.
Here you need to create or use a new installation disc such that your computer can read it clearly and install the respective Windows operating system.
No doubt, this will solve the critical boot drivers’ problem associated with the disc or USB flash drive.
Conclusion
All these methods are so simple to perform and you can do it on your own.
In case you are not finding it hard, you need to call a technician. It is the only way left to solve ‘Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers’ error message.
Note that some users prefer the full format of the computer hard drive. If you have already backed-up the important data, you too can do the same.
It is a good way to get rid of the error and ensure complete clean of the hard drive. So, the choice is yours now.

FIX: Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers
There are only so many things that can go wrong when you try to install Windows 10. However, every single one of those scarce errors is usually quite hard to deal with.
The Windows setup could not install one or more boot-critical drivers error. appears immediately after you’ve loaded the installation files from the bootable drive.
Usually, the solution to fix the error is simple, such as taking out the CD or DVD from the ROM but it can also be the case that if this does not work then you’ll need to do other steps as well.
We hope the steps we enlisted below will help you out.
Windows could not install one or more boot critical drivers?
1. Use Tenorshare
When it comes to solving common issues related to Windows startup, such as automatically booting the system, Tenorshare Windows Boot Genius is the way to go. The software’s interface makes it really easy to use and it’s intuitive.
If you need to boot your device and tried everything but nothing seems to work, perhaps it’s time to try Tenorshare Windows Boot Genius. Not only it will boot your device but you can rest assured that your files won’t be lost and it can also help restore your windows operating system if needed.
And if any of your data got lost, Windows Boot Genius can help you recover it, even if it’s from an unbootable hard disk.
With this tool you can repair almost all common issues that would require you to boot your PC: blue screen and black screen error, freeze screen, or welcoming screen issues.

2. Remove the disk from the DVD/CD – ROM
This solved the majority of reported cases, and it’s as peculiar as one would expect.
The conflict between the two media drives particularly involves the disk with drivers in your DVD-ROM compartment. But the other disks might inflict the same error, as well.
On the other hand, if this isn’t the resolution for your problem and you’re still seeing the same error upon booting with the USB, there are additional steps to take. Have in mind that these require access to the hardware configuration, so you’ll need to take the following steps:
3. Create new installation media with the Media Creation Tool
Run a System Scan to discover potential errors
Note: Have in mind that the procedure will delete everything from the USB flash drive, so backup your data timely.
4. Try booting in the Legacy mode
The usability of a bootable drive depends on a partitioning mode. If you’re using Legacy BIOS MBR (Master Boot Record) partitioning style you won’t be able to install Windows 10 in a UEFI boot mode. Only in Legacy BIOS.
The only way to make it boot is to format your HDD to its successor, the GPT (GUID Partition Table) partitioning style and then boot in UEFI boot mode. Alternatively, you’ll need to enter BIOS/UEFI settings and switch to the Legacy BIOS mode.
We prefer the first option as the UEFI is newer and better of the two. However, since it leads to formatting the hard drive (and who wants that), the Legacy BIOS should be a better temporary solution.
In order to change settings from UEFI to Legacy BIOS, you’ll need to access the BIOS/UEFI settings.
5. Fully format the system drive and try installing again
In the end, if none of the steps worked out, we suggest fully formatting the hard drive and starting from scratch. This can be done through the elevated Command Prompt. At least, it should be.
If you’re unable to access the disk drive when the installation files load from the bootable drive (pressing Shift + F10 should open Command Prompt), you can use a third-party formatting tool and nuke the HDD that way.
And when we say nuke we mean completely and permanently wipe everything, without any way to restore your data.
Because of this fact, we recommend that you to backup all your data to alternative storage and then and only then follow the steps we enlisted above.
With that said, we can call it a wrap. If you have any questions or suggestions concerning the boot-critical driver’s error prior to Windows 10 installation, feel free to tell us in the comments section below.
